Because we firmly believe in agility in IT, open architecture is what we follow in designing our products and solutions. We believe that IT products/solutions should be built with modules that are modularized; thus, allowing it to be easily modified, upgraded or extended by just adding, deleting or replacing modules. Whereas in closed architecture, the high maintenance required and the lack of availability of the labor pool in maintaining such systems would result in higher cost for the end user.
Agility in Open Architecture would have :
Linux for us is the epitome of a tiny spark that made IT collaboration sensible producing unselfish and unimaginable wonders. Because of this addictive agent, numerous ideas blossomed, enhanced lives, effected politicial change and literally breaking borders.
Asterisk, like linux, is a disruptive technology that paved the way to cheaper and innovative communication platform. With the introduction and continuous improvement of the Asterisk Technology and its derivative, the Communication Industry pushed features far and wide yet bringing down the cost.
At 8Layer, we made IT solutions available and affordable even for SMEs and micro entrepreneurs through the use of open source.
Why should we choose open source?
CostNo license fees. No per-copy fees for modified versions, and can be reused to start new projects. Working knowledge can be gathered at a minimal cost.
ReliabilityThe availability of the source code and the right to modify it enables the continuous and unrestricted tuning and improvement of the software product.
StabilityThorough inspection and verification of the correctness of the algorithm and the implementation scheme used can be performed anytime.
Flexibility and FreedomPortable to new hardware, to adapt it to changing conditions, and to reach a detailed understanding of how the system works. No one can restrict how the software is used, even in a retroactive way.
Support and AccountabilityProvides a new forum for democratic action. As individuals and companies decide where to make improvements in the system, the collective desires of the community determine the overall direction of progress, and yet without compelling anyone. People with opinions about what direction is best can urge others to join in, request help, and influence the overall direction of progress.
